2026 Programme Overview

Stronger, Smarter, Greener: The North’s Construction Agenda
Construction EXPO North 2026 shined a spotlight on the opportunities, challenges and big ideas shaping the future of construction across the North. With billions of pounds’ worth of projects planned across Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Cheshire, Merseyside, Yorkshire and the wider region, the sector is entering a pivotal period of growth and transformation.
The programme explored the topics that matter most to the northern built environment community, from Sustainability & Environmental Practice, Digital, Innovation & AI in Construction, to Building Safety, Compliance & Regulation, Strengthening the Workforce, and the Role of Place, Regeneration and Existing Assets in Driving Economic and Social Value.
Designed as a positive, solutions-led programme, the day focused on collaboration, resilience and unlocking opportunity across the entire region.
Rather than dwelling on uncertainty or policy frustration, sessions looked ahead to what the industry can do now, supported by an economic update and discussion on what fiscal announcements and spending priorities mean for northern construction. Attendees came away with clarity, confidence and actionable takeaways to help build a stronger, more innovative and future-ready North.

Opening Keynote
This opening panel discussion set the scene for Construction EXPO North by focusing on one of the most important questions facing the industry today: the scale of construction opportunity across the North, and our ability to deliver it.
Bringing together insights from construction pipeline data, economic and business confidence research, and on-the-ground industry experience, the panel explored what the current and future pipeline of work looks like across the North, and what is required to turn opportunity into delivery.
The discussion focusd on:
- The scale, shape and timing of the construction pipeline across the North
- How confident the sector is in its ability to deliver at pace and at scale
- The key constraints facing delivery, including skills, capacity, productivity, cost and supply chain resilience
- The enablers needed to unlock delivery — from digital and innovation to skills investment, sustainability and collaboration
Designed as a positive, forward-looking conversation, this session went beyond data to focus on solutions. It gave delegates a clear understanding of where opportunity is emerging, what needs to change to deliver it successfully, and how the industry can respond.
Key takeaways for delegates included:
- A clear view of the construction pipeline across the North
- Insight into the sector’s readiness to deliver future workload
- An understanding of the practical steps needed to unlock delivery
- Confidence in how the industry can build stronger, smarter and greener across the region
This session provided the evidence and direction that underpinned the rest of the conference, making it an essential starting point for the day.
